York Air Conditioner Installation

Have you bought a new York air conditioning unit? And, looking to install it? If yes, we are here to help you by providing the complete guide on York air conditioner installation. In this post, we have given the instructions. In this post, we have given the instructions for both indoor and outdoor unit installations. So, read this entire post and complete your York AC installation easily and as quickly as possible.

1. Select the Installation Location

You should follow the below standards while selecting the location for York air conditioner installation. The needed standards for proper installation are:

Convenient drainage.

Good air circulation.

Firm and solid, the location should not vibrate.

Strong enough to support the weight of the air conditioning unit.

A location must be at least one meter from other electrical devices.

You do not install your indoor unit:

Nearby source of heat, steam and combustible gas.

Near flammable things like curtains, clothing, etc.

At the doorway.

Near any obstacle that might block air circulation.

The location should not be subjected to direct sunlight.

2. Attach Mounting Plate to Wall

The mounting plate is the device on which you will mount the indoor unit. So, here, you can know how to attach the mounting plate to the wall.

Remove the screw that attaches the mounting plate to the back of your indoor unit.

Now, you have to place the mounting plate against the wall in a location as per the standards given in the manual.

After that, drill holes for mounting screws in places that have studs and support the unit weight and the place need to correspond to screw holes in the mounting plate.

Tighten and secure the mounting plate to the wall with the screws provided.

The mounting plate should be flat against the wall.

3. Drill wall hole for connective piping

You will need to drill a hole in the wall for refrigerant piping, the drainage pipe and the signal cable that connects the indoor and outdoor units.

This wall hole has a minimum of 65mm diameter and at a slightly lower angle to facilitate drainage. Make sure the location of the wall hole should be based on the position of the mounting plate.

You can use a 65 mm core drill for drilling a hole in the wall. Moreover, it should be a slight downward angle so that the outdoor end of the hole is lower than the indoor. It helps for proper water drainage.

At last, place the protective wall cuff in the drilled hole. It protects the hole edges and helps to seal them when you complete the installation process.

4. Prepare Refrigerant Piping

The refrigerant piping is inside an insulating sleeve that is attached to the back of the unit. You should prepare the piping before passing it through the hole in the wall.

You have to choose the side from which the piping exit the indoor unit based on the wall hole position relative to the mounting plate.

If the wall hole is to the side of the unit, you need to remove the plastic knock-out panel from the side of the outdoor unit. If the hole is behind the indoor unit, keep the knock-out panel in place.

Cut down the length of the insulating sleeve to about 15cm of the refrigerant piping by using scissors.

If existing connective piping is already embedded in the wall, you can proceed directly with the drain hose connection.

You have to determine the angle of your piping depending on the wall hole position relative to the mounting plate.

Grip the refrigerant piping at the base of the bend.

Next, bend the piping towards the hole slowly with even pressure.

5. Connect Drain Hose

By default, the drain hose is attached to the left side of the air conditioning unit. You need to attach it to the right side as well.

You have to connect the drain hose on the same side where your refrigerant piping exists in the unit to ensure proper drainage.

Now, attach the drain hose extension to the end of the drain hose.

Seal the connection point firmly with Teflon tape to prevent leaks.

Remove the air filter and pour a small amount of water into the drain pan to keep the water flowing as smooth from AC.

6. Connect Signal Cable

This signal cable enables communication between the indoor & outdoor units. So, the cable should be in the right size for proper operation.

Prepare the signal cable for connection.

After that, open the front panel of the indoor unit.

Open the wire box cover on the right side with a screwdriver to access the terminal block.

Now, unscrew the cable clamp below the terminal block and keep it aside.

Facing the back of indoor unit, remove the plastic panel on the bottom left-hand side.

Pull the signal wire through this slot from back to the front of the unit.

Match all wire colors based on the labels on the terminal block. Connect the u-lug and firmly screw each wire to the corresponding terminal.

Once you confirmed that every connection is secured, you have to fasten the cable to the unit with a cable clamp.

Now, replace the wire cover and the plastic panel.

7. Wrap Piping and Cables

Before passing the piping, drain hose, and the signal cable through the wall hole, bundle them together to save space. Also, you need to protect them, and insulate them.

8. Mount indoor unit

If you have installed the new connective piping to the outdoor unit, then do the following:

Hook the top of the indoor unit on the upper hook of the mounting plate.

Check that the AC is hooked firmly on mounting by applying slight pressure.

Push down on the bottom of the indoor unit. You need to keep pushing down until it snaps onto the hooks along the bottom of the mounting plate.

Again check whether it is firmly mounted or not by applying slight pressure.

Outdoor Unit Installation

Here, you can check the outdoor unit installation instructions.

Select the proper location.

Install drain joint.

Anchor outdoor unit to the ground or a wall-mounted bracket.

Check the manual for the detailed installation process of York AC outdoor unit installation.

Conclusion

Hope this guide on York air conditioner installation helped you more to make your work easier. If you need any further instructions on either indoor unit installation or outdoor unit installation, you can refer to your York manual.

York Air Handler Troubleshooting

When there is a problem with any Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system, we feel very uncomfortable. The York air handler has designed with many electrical and mechanical components so that can get problems from time to time. Some of the common York air handler problems may help you identify the issue and possibly fix it. You can avoid the most common problems with regular maintenance of the air handler unit.

York Air Handler Troubleshooting
When your air handler doesn't work properly, there are many areas to check for problems in and around the unit. The following initial checks are necessary before resolving any issues.

Compare phase of power supply and voltage with rating plate numbers.
Check the wiring diagram connections between the control panel and remote panel.
Verify the gas type and supply pressure with the official rating information.
See for proper blower rotation on the unit and any exhaust blowers.

Clogged or dirty evaporator coil
If the evaporator is dirty, it causes to freeze and reduce the cooling capacity of the unit. So, you need to try turning off the thermostat for 1 to 3 hours and examine if it will defrost. Verify whether there are indications of water leakage below the indoor unit. If you observe any leaks and unable to defrost the coil, you have to contact an authorized specialist.

Blower Motor is Not Functioning
Sometimes excessive dust can build up and cause the motor to burn out. When you didn't replace the air filter, this type of problem may happen. Also, check for the blower motor failure. If the blower motor is failed, you have to replace it.

York Air Handler Maintenance
A clean filter saves money.  Ensure the top efficiency of the air handler by cleaning the filter regularly. When the unit circuit and filters the air in your home, dust and dirt particles collect on the filter located in your indoor unit. Excessive buildup forces the unit to run longer to maintain your set temperature.

Clean or replace the filter
You should clean or replace the air filter at least once a month or twice when your system is running more time. If it is a semi-permanent filter, you can take out the filter and vacuum it. If you have a disposable filter, it should be replaced every month. When replacing the filters, use the same size and type that was originally supplied. You can buy these filters at PartsAPS. Along with this, you have to do the following:

Ensure fan blades are free of dust buildup.
Moving parts should be free of cracks and excessive wear.
Test if the fan RPM meets your design specifications.
Clean dampers of dirt accumulations.
Tighten bearing collar screws on fan shaft.
Confirm damper actuators and linkages are operational and aligned.
Check all coils, leaks, valves, refrigerant lines, fittings, etc.
Examine the rust in condensation pans and drains.
Check all belts for signs of wear and cracks.
Verify all belts for signs of wear and cracks.
Drain and remove moisture from all cooling coils.
Vacuum the whole air handler properly.
Align rigid couplings properly.
Listen for excessive noise or vibrations.
How to Change Air Handler Air Filter?
First, locate your filter. It may be located behind the bottom panel of your indoor unit. Some models have two filters.

Remove the old filter. While inserting the new one it should be clean. By following the directions pointed in the manual, you have to insert a new one.

Now, replace it with a new filter. Make sure you use the same size and type of filter.

When you are going out for a few days or when outdoor temperatures are decreased, don't run the air handler unnecessarily.

Conclusion:

Your York air handler is responsible for evenly distributing cool and warm air throughout your home. So, you should perform maintenance tasks regularly to increase the life span of your system. York Heat Pump Troubleshooting

As York heat pump provides both cooling and heating, it may seem like there are many possible causes when something goes wrong. A heat pump unit doesn't operate somewhat differently than an air conditioner. So, here are ways to find out what may have gone wrong with your York heat pump and potentially resolve the issues rather than calling a repair person. In some cases, you can prevent and solve the issues on your own when you are aware of the York heat pump troubleshooting.

Thermostat problems
First of all, you should check that your thermostat has set at the right modes. If every setting is correct, the problem could be a miscalibration. Due to this miscalibration, your thermostat read the temperatures incorrectly, Although, there may be an electrical problem that stops the thermostat from communicating with the heat pump. In these cases, you need to contact a professional for servicing.

Power Issues
Sometimes, a tripped circuit breaker is caused for this problem. Make sure all the breakers are in the proper positions. If the circuit breaker is tripped, you have to reset it to avoid electrical issues. Also, check for other electrical issues. If you have a minimum knowledge of electrical components repairing, then you can fix the problem immediately. If not, contact an electrician or a professional.

Defective starter capacitor
Once listen to your heat pump unit. If you hear a faint clicking noise, then consider that your system is supposed to be turning on and the problem is likely with the starter capacitor. A starter capacitor is used to transmit the electrical charge that turns on the motors. So, you have to check for the starter capacitor is broken. If so, you need to replace it.

Broken reversing valve
As the name indicates, the reverse valve allows the unit to work as both an air conditioner as well as a heater by reversing the refrigerant direction. If you start the heat pump when you need cool air, but it produces heat, then it is likely caused by this valve. If it is damaged.

Heat Pump is Not Cooling
Thermostat problem - You have to check to see that the thermostat is set to cool mode. If the thermostat is set to cool correctly, then there may be a problem with the thermostat not reading the temperature correctly or an electrical problem stops the element from communicating the system. If you are unable to identify the cause or fix it, call a professional.

Broken reversing valve - If your unit is running, but hot is coming from vents, there could be a problem with your reversing valve. Reversing valve reverses the refrigerant and allows it to act as both a heater and an air conditioner. If this valve is defective, it needs to be replaced. You can take the help of a technician for replacing this valve.

Components are dirty - If the air coming out of your vents is lukewarm, that is a sign that your components are dirty. Go outside and clean off the heat pump so it's free of any debris and check the air filter to see if it needs to be changed.

Refrigerant charge is low - Again you need to inspect the refrigerant levels. If they are too low or if there is any leak, your system will unable to cool your house. Fix leaks if there are any existed and increase the levels.

Conclusion
If your York heat pump is experiencing repeated problems and not performing to your needs. Then, you have to think about investing in a new system or find a new service provider that can better meet your needs. You can buy new York heat pump parts from PartsAPS.
